Aqualyx (Fat Dissolving)

Permanently dissolve stubborn fat — precisely targeted

Aqualyx is a clinically proven fat-dissolving injection that permanently destroys fat cells in small, targeted areas. It is an ideal solution for localised fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise, such as a double chin, jowls, small abdominal pockets and inner thighs.

Aqualyx fat-dissolving injection boxes and vials — targeted, non-surgical fat reduction

Aqualyx is an injectable, hydrous, micro-gelatinous solution that is biocompatible and biodegradable. It causes the dissolution of fat cells, after which the body expels the released fatty acids naturally. Administered directly into the fat tissue with a thin cannula, anaesthesia usually isn't required, there are no incisions or stitches, and scarring is unlikely.

Developed by aesthetic surgeon Prof. Pasquale Motolese in 2002, Aqualyx has been used for many years across Europe and beyond, with the manufacturer reporting sales of two million vials in two years and no major side effects recorded. Destroying the fat cells leads to a long-lasting solution provided patients remain at a stable weight — follow-up examinations seven years after therapy have still shown a relevant reduction in fat tissue in treated areas.

Aqualyx is intended for patients with localised fatty deposits that don't respond to diet or exercise — it is not a weight-loss treatment, but a way to improve and refine body contour. Results shouldn't be compared to liposuction, which surgically removes large amounts of fat in one procedure.

At YourHealthFirst, Aqualyx is commonly used to treat the submental area (double chin), jowls, small abdominal areas, upper arms and inner thighs. It is particularly popular as a complement to cryolipolysis for smaller or more defined target zones. Typically, 1–3 treatments are needed for small areas (e.g. jowls) and 2–8 for larger areas (e.g. thighs), spaced around 6 weeks apart. Aqualyx causes an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells that can result in swelling for 3–5 days — this is a normal sign the treatment is working.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about aqualyx (fat dissolving) at YourHealthFirst Clinic.

Aqualyx is a water-based solution injected into stubborn fat areas around the body. It liquefies the fat cell membrane, which is then eliminated naturally by the body over the following weeks.

The solution is injected into the fat through a thin, flexible cannula. A local anaesthetic (lidocaine) can be added to the solution before injecting to improve comfort.

Typically 1–3 sessions for small areas (like the jowls) and 2–8 sessions for larger areas (like the thighs), spaced around 6 weeks apart, allowing your body time to process and clear each round of destroyed fat cells before the next treatment.

A progressive, permanent reduction in the treated fat pocket — commonly the double chin, jowls or small areas on the abdomen and thighs.

A thin cannula is used to minimise discomfort, and local anaesthetic can be applied. Most patients tolerate the injections well with only mild stinging.

Swelling and redness in the treated area for several days is expected and is a normal sign that the immune system is processing the destroyed fat cells. Bruising can also occur.

Aqualyx is an injectable, making it ideal for small, precisely defined areas like the chin or jowls that a cryolipolysis applicator can't easily reach — the two treatments are often used together for comprehensive contouring.

A reduction in fat deposits can be seen after just one treatment, though anything between 1 and 8 sessions may be needed for the optimal effect, developing progressively over 6–8 weeks per session as the body clears the treated tissue via the lymphatic system.

Yes — the destroyed fat cells do not regenerate. Long-term studies show a relevant reduction in fat tissue sustained even seven years after treatment, provided a stable weight is maintained afterwards.

Avoid make-up or skincare on the treated area for 12 hours. Avoid extreme temperatures, pools, spas and saunas for 3 days, strenuous exercise for 10 days, and laser, cryolipolysis or radiofrequency treatments for 14 days.

Adults with small, localised fat deposits — such as a double chin, jowls or defined abdominal pockets — that are resistant to diet and exercise.
