These simple test kits detect viral proteins (antigens) from the SARS-CoV-2 virus in respiratory samples, such as from a nose or throat swab. If the target antigen is present in enough quantity it will bind to specific antibodies fixed to a paper strip enclosed in a plastic casing and generate a visual signal, usually within 30 minutes. These tests are not to be confused with rapid antibody tests, which use blood to detect antibodies generated in response to infection.
Polymerase chain reaction tests detect the virus’s RNA in a sample. The test amplifies small bits of genetic material to enable detection. So a test can give a positive result long after a person stops being infectious.
Information about your vaccination status:
For the “double-vaccinated” travelling will become a lot easier – you’ll need to wait 14 days after your second vaccination before travelling to be classed as “double-vaccinated” for the UK (and many other countries).
Please note; The UK Government categorises someone as “double-vaccinated” or “fully vaccinated” for travel purposes as someone who has been fully vaccinated with an NHS administered vaccine in the UK (plus 14 days), or are on a formally approved UK vaccine clinical trial. All passengers will still need to complete their passenger locator form, which will include the requirement to declare vaccination status and provide proof of their pre-departure test.
If you have been fully vaccinated according to the UK government’s guidance, you can travel from an amber list country without quarantine. However, there will be instances where you have had both vaccinations, but are not categorised as “fully vaccinated” according to the government rules and will have to quarantine on return to the UK from an amber list country.
There 2 main scenarios where restrictions are changing
1) “Double-vaccinated” . You’ve had both jabs and are travelling to a country that requires a PCR or Antigen test to enter, here are the tests you will need:
2) ” Non-Vaccinated “People who are not fully vaccinated will still need to take a pre-departure test before returning to the UK, as well as a PCR test on days two and eight after they return.
They must also self-isolate for 10 days at home, as per the rules for amber list countries under the traffic light system.
Not being fully vaccinated is also likely to make things more complicated when you are abroad.
Many countries require visitors to present a “Covid passport” in order to so much as sit outside at a restaurant, enter indoor attractions or even travel on long distance public.
If you have any of the symptoms below you must NOT come to the Practice but instead book our Home test kit:
