What is Non-Surgical Blepharoplasty?

The eyes are one of the first places where visible signs of aging appear. The delicate skin around the eye is paper-thin and thins even more as you age. In addition, this area holds fewer oil and sweat glands, making it even more susceptible to the effects of aging. The most common age-related complaints include dark circles, “crow’s feet,” and bags or swelling under or around the eyes. Whether from ageing, lifestyle or exhaustion, dark circles and bags definitely make you look and feel much older than you are.

In the past, surgery was the only effective solution for bags and dark circles around the eye area. Surgery to reposition or remove the fat under the eyes works well for patients who have a significant amount of fatty tissue under the lower eyelid. Repositioning the fat evens the area under the eye and eliminates the bulge.
Non-surgical blepharoplasty uses soft surgery with PlexR®, a revolutionary and patented innovation that opens the door to a new and exciting frontier into the field of medical aesthetics.

Non-surgical blepharoplasty is performed without cutting, without removing excess skin or fat and without modifying the orbicular muscle of the eyelids. This bypasses all risks inherent to traditional surgical intervention.

PlexR®, is a device that creates plasma, which is used to treat the excess skin. It targets energy only on superficial skin cells without disturbing deeper tissues. This enables perfect plasticity of the eyelid movement immediately after the treatment.

The result is instantaneous reduction of excess skin on the upper or lower eyelid, as well as shrinkage of excess skin in the external region around the eye. Another benefit patients experience is improvement of expression lines at the corner of the eye and the cheekbone (“crow’s feet”).

The procedure

The blepharoplasty technique is “dynamic;” it allows the practitioner to ask clients to open and close their eyes during the treatment. A typical session will last no more than 30 minutes. The tiny point-like crusts will fall off within three to seven days.

Depending on the nature and extent of the excess skin and area treated, you may need between one to three treatments, four to six weeks apart.

Patients may experience some swelling and soreness in the treated area post-procedure. Residual crusts fall off within seven days; in the meantime, they can be concealed with liquid foundation. During your consultation, our specialist will discuss your suitability for treatment and expectations.

Pros and Cons of the Non-Surgical Eyelid Lift

The fillers contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, making the procedure virtually pain-free. For patients with a low pain threshold, we apply topical numbing cream. After the injections, it is possible to experience minor bruising, mild swelling, redness and tenderness; these usually resolve within a few days. During the procedure, we apply ice to the area prior to injection to decrease the risk of bruising.

In order to further minimize the possibility of bruising, it is recommended the patient avoid blood thinners for a week before the procedure. Blood thinners include alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Vitamin E supplements, fish and flax seed oil supplements, ginko biloba and St. John’s Wort. It is advised to take arnica and bromelain tablets prior to and post procedure.

Hyaluronic acid fillers result in a smoother under eye area. With the effects lasting two to six years, this temporary method allows your face to adjust as it changes over time so you experience an endless natural appearance. An additional benefit of hyaluronic acid injectable fillers is that results are completely are completely reversible; if you are not satisfied, a simple enzyme injection will counteract the changes. We recommend retouching visits three weeks after your injection to check the results and adjust the filler, if necessary. During this visit, your doctor may slightly enhance or reduce certain areas.
